DURBAN / MÜNSTER -- Starting mid-June, everything will revolve around soccer in South Africa. Guests from all over the world will travel to the African continent, most of them by plane. To handle the throngs, a new airport has been built in Durban - with colorful support by BASF Coatings.

12,000 liters (3,000 gallons) of coil coatings from BASF Coatings were used that provide corrosion protection and color at the King Shaka International Airport. The coil coatings were employed during the building of facades and roofs made of steel. A very modern, neutral shade of gray was chosen for the paints.

BASF Coatings has been represented in South Africa with its own site in Vanderbijlpark since the end of the 1990s. High-quality coil coatings are produced and marketed here. BASF Coatings in South Africa works closely with the teams in Münster and Deeside to stay on top of the latest technological developments.

Durban is one of ten cities in South Africa where the international soccer stars will be taking to the pitch. The King Shaka International Airport is about 35 kilometers (20 miles) from Durban and opened its doors to passengers in May 2010.
