BASF appoints Podesta to lead Performance Chemicals in North America

MOUNT OLIVE, N.J., October 1, 2003 - BASF has appointed Gerry P. Podesta as Group Vice President, Performance Chemicals, with responsibility for regional business unit operations in North America.

The Performance Chemicals business serves a wide range of manufacturing industries with products that include chemicals for textile and leather treatment, lubricants, fuel additives, coatings, plastics, and detergents; dyes and pigments; printing plates and inks; and chelates, biocides and wood preservatives.

Podesta joins BASF after 20 years with General Electric Company. During his time with GE, he held positions in technical development, marketing and general management serving the Consumer and Electronics, and Automotive markets. He also served as General Manager of GE's eBusiness. He was most recently Vice President and General Manager, GE Plastics Americas. Prior to GE, he was with Rohm & Haas Company in Philadelphia, Pa. A native of New York City, Podesta earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He is married and has 2 children.

Podesta succeeds Michael Stumpp, who transferred to Germany to become Group Vice President, Performance Chemicals for Printing Industry Global Business Unit, and Managing Director of BASF Drucksysteme GmbH, Stuttgart.
