BASF Appoints Bill Sparks Business Manager for Architectural Coatings

CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 28, 2003 - Bill Sparks has been appointed business manager for BASF's functional polymers business serving the architectural coatings market in North America. He will be based in Charlotte.

Most recently, Sparks was a business development and key account manager for BASF's paper chemicals business unit. He joined the company in 1997 as product manager. Prior to BASF, Sparks worked for Alco Chemicals as sales manager and market manager for architectural coatings, paper coatings and adhesives.

Sparks earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a master's of science degree in polymer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Ga., and a master's of business administration in marketing from the Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University.

BASF's North American business unit for functional polymers produces styrene butadiene, styrene acrylic, and acrylic emulsions that help make products better in the construction, asphalt and architectural coatings industry as well as in carpets, adhesives and fiber bonding.
