GEISMAR, LA -- Celebrating its first six months of operation,
the BASF alkylethanolamines (AEOA) plant in Geismar, Louisiana, has passed
all of its design rate tests, including consistent production of high
quality MDEOA ( N-Methyldiethanolamine) and DMEOA (N,N-Dimethylthanolamine
S).
"Our amines plant operations staff at Geismar have done an outstanding
job bringing our new alkylethanolamines plant up to design rates so quickly,"
said Teressa Szelest, group vice president for the BASF Chemical Intermediates
business in North America. "Producing high quality material consistently
at design rates enables our customers to rely on BASF for domestic supply
of these high quality materials. It also strengthens our position as a
regional and global leader for these important alkylethanolamines."
MDEOA and DMEOA are used to make wide variety of products, including
gas scubbing agents, dyes, lubrication oils, plasticizers, fabric softeners,
flocculation agents, ion exchange materials, corrosion inhibitors, pharmaceuticals,
crop protection agents additives for textiles, hardeners for epoxy resins
and polyurethane catalysts.
"Our customers have been very pleased with the quality of our DMEOA
and MDEOA, as well as the dependability of their supply," said Steve
Fox, operations manager for the BASF amines complex in Geismar. "In
particular, our customers have been very pleased about the supply flexibility
we have been able to provide as a result of starting production ahead
of schedule and the excellent reliability that the operation has achieved."
