AkzoNobel Wins Contract to Supply Coatings for Chinese Bus Fleet

Published on 2009-07-27. Author : SpecialChem

AkzoNobel's Car Refinishes China business has recently been awarded a contract by the local Government authorities in the Chinese city of Wuhan to supply coatings for the city's new fleet of 1,000 hybrid buses. The project is part of the Chinese Government's strategy to counter the financial crisis by stimulating the local economy, while at the same time promoting new technology, environmental protection and energy savings.

Under the terms of the transaction, AkzoNobel Car Refinishes will supply it's high quality Sikkens Autocoat BT 80 paint systems to the Dongfeng YangziJiang Bus Co., Ltd through local dealer Wuhan XinLong. Sikkens Autocoat BT 80 was launched in China in June this year and is manufactured locally with the full endorsement of AkzoNobel.

"This agreement once again reflects our long term commitment to the Chinese market and the Chinese Government's economic strategy," says Raymond Chong, Product Manager, Car Refinishes China. "It is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a major company really is willing to think internationally but acts locally in partnership with local stakeholders. And it is also a major confidence booster for all parties concerned for a newly launched product range."

AkzoNobel's Sikkens Autocoat BT 80 was chosen as the best solution for the new bus fleet because it offers excellent long-term protection, good quality resistance and high performance in even the most challenging environmental conditions. Another key factor was that Sikkens Autocoat BT 80 is endorsed by AkzoNobel's high quality standards.

"We are delighted to be able to work with a company with the expertise and international reputation of AkzoNobel," says Mr. XiuRun Huang, the General Manager of the Dongfeng YangziJiang Bus Co., Ltd. "The spirit of collaboration and close partnership that has been the hallmark of the business relationship between both parties reflects AkzoNobel's commitment to put down strong and sustainable roots in China and to add value where it can to our efforts. The company proves it is providing tomorrow's answers today to it's customers."
