Akzo Nobel takes over Car Refinishes activities of Swiss importer Graf Lack

Sassenheim/Stuttgart -- Akzo Nobel has strengthened its European distribution network in the German speaking countries by taking over business activities of its Swiss importer Graf Lack. Graf Lack has distributed Sikkens® and Lesonal® car refinishes products within Switzerland for more than 50 years and employs more than 30 people. Subject to due diligence, transfer to the new founded Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes AG, Wetzikon, is expected early January 2006.

"Switzerland was one of the last countries in the Western European market where we were represented by an importer," said Rinus Rooseboom, General Manager Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes. "This acquisition will make an important contribution towards strengthening our distribution capability in the region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which we see as one of our main strategic markets in Western Europe."

Akzo Nobel, based in the Netherlands, serves customers throughout the world with healthcare products, coatings and chemicals. Listed on both the Euronext and NASDAQ Stock Exchanges, the company is a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Consolidated revenues for 2004 totaled EUR 12.7 billion. The Company currently employs some 62,000 people in more than 80 countries. The financial results for 2005 will be published on February 7, 2006.

Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes supplies paint, services and software for car repair, commercial vehicle and automotive markets. The main brands include Sikkens® and Lesonal® in car repair, and Sikkens Autocoat® BT in commercial vehicles. Automotive plastic interior and exterior components customers are also served under Akzo Nobel Car Refinishes.
