Air Products Manufacturing Plant Debottlenecking Efforts to Increase Production of Airflex® Emulsion Products

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. -- Air Products Polymers announced its intention to expand production capacity of Airflex® vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) emulsions in the United States by 65 million wet pounds per year over the next six months through low cost debottlenecking at its two U.S. manufacturing facilities in Calvert City, Ky. and South Brunswick, NJ.

"Advances in operational innovation have created significant productivity and capacity improvement opportunities that will give us capacity comparable to adding a new reactor at a fraction of the total cost," said Kenneth Kem, vice president, Technology at Air Products. The first phases of the additional capacity will be on stream in this summer with a second phase implemented in the fall of 2005. Kem said this increased capacity will help to meet customer needs across a wide range of product applications.

Airflex VAE emulsions are water-based products used in applications including adhesives, paint, paper, non-woven products such as industrial wipes, paper towels and hygiene products, and in building products.

Air Products Polymers, L.P., a limited partnership between Air Products and Chemicals, Inc and Wacker-Chemie, Gmbh, is a global leader in the production of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer dispersions with production facilities in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
