Air Products introduces new chemical resistant epoxy curing agent

Published on 2003-11-12. Author : SpecialChem

Responding to a North American market need for a curing agent for formulations with increased chemical resistance for coating concrete and metal, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. has developed Ancamine® 2625 curing agent, a high performance product featuring the added benefit of being non-MDA (methelene dianiline), for use in high employee traffic areas.

"This product was developed to perform at a level equal to other products on the curing agent market, but with an added value of safety in not containing MDA. Air Products regards safety of employees and the environment as priority issues. Ancamine 2625 curing agent performs well in high chemical exposure areas, but workers are not exposed to any MDA issues from formulations using this coating during the storing, handling, applying or disposal, or daily equipment use of this epoxy formulated product," said Marino Papazoglou, market manager, North American Epoxy Additives at Air Products. Papazoglou added that Air Products believes the applications for this product include areas consistently exposed to chemical interaction, such as tank or secondary containment linings for numerous heavy industries, as well as industrial floorings regularly exposed to chemicals.

Ancamine 2625 curing agent is a non-MDA aromatic amine, designed for use in two-package epoxy formulations. It is especially suitable for use with multi-functional, epoxy novalac resins. It is plasticizer-free to allow more formulating flexibility and suitable for ambient and heat-cured applications with the same high chemical exposure resistance. The curing agent product has low viscosity to provide ease of application, and a low AHEW (amine hydrogen equivalent weight) to be a low cost-in-use material.
