Air Products introduces its newest Surfynol® MD-20

Published on 2003-11-21. Author : SpecialChem

It's bye-bye to foam with a new molecular defoaming product based on Gemini surfactant technology developed by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for use in a broad array of applications. Surfynol® MD-20 molecular defoamer performs beyond just knockdown foam control, exhibiting high marks in other important areas such as macro and micro foam control, defoamer longevity, wetting defect reduction, wide compounding latitude and ease of handling.

"Foam that is produced by system mixing or by application often produces undesirable results, and at the same time it negatively impacts system performance. Because of Surfynol MD-20 defoamer's multi-functionality, it provides excellent foam control and wetting. As a result, fisheyes and craters, and related defects commonly caused by other defoamers are minimized," said Dr. Steven Chan, section manager for Performance Solutions Application Development and Technical Services at Air Products. "The product's performance capabilities allow formulators to reduce overall additive levels and attacks different mechanisms of foam stabilization. Additionally, the product can be used alone or in combination with other Surfynol wetting agents."

There are many advantages and benefits for customers using Surfynol MD-20 molecular defoamer. Formulators can expect defect-free foam control with dynamic wetting, long-lasting defoamer efficacy, ease of incorporation and good compatability without separation. The product has wide compounding latitude and is synergistic with typical wetting agents for formulation simplification. Surfynol MD-20 defoamer eliminates microfoam and is a 100 percent active, solvent free and clear liquid.

This multifunctional defoamer has a long list of recommended waterborne system applications. These many uses include: coatings for automotive, OEM and DIY wood, industrial maintenance, metal and paper, and architectural coatings; graphic arts for printing inks, overprint varnishes and fountain solutions; adhesives, dye and pigment synthesis, pigment grinding, oil and gas processing, cleaning products, semiconductor cleaning and processing, metalworking fluids, cements, mortars and grouts, and personal care.
