ADLER - 75 Years on the Job: Tyrolean Paint Factory Celebrates its Jubilee

450 employees, 10,000 different products, annual production of 16,000 tonnes, and distributors and subsidiaries in half Europe - the company behind these impressive figures is the Tyrolean paint factory ADLER. The company can look back on a colourful history of success, which started exactly 75 years ago.

Humble beginnings

In 1934 Johann Berghofer laid the foundations of the present-day company and the ADLER brand. In a small paint store in the old part of Schwaz, helped by two employees he manufactured oil paints, matting agents, polishes and floor surface treatment products. After his sudden death in 1964 the ADLER works were managed by his son, Günther Berghofer, who, in 2001, passed responsibility for the company's fortunes on to his daughter, Andrea Berghofer, and the longstanding manager Dr. Manfred Oberreiter. 75 years after its foundation, ADLER is now an internationally-oriented paint factory and Austria's leading manufacturer of paint, coatings, and wood preservatives. "Three quarters of a century of successful corporate history - nowadays that is not something that is a matter of course. These first 75 years are the result of our passionate enthusiasm, which is inspired by innovative energy, steadfastness and courage, and also by the appreciation of those who use our products every day", ADLER CEO Andrea Berghofer stresses. "Our slogan 'Paint flows through our veins' expresses what ADLER's distinctive feature is - the dedication and enthusiasm of every individual employee."

A progressive family-run business

Tradition and innovation are the qualities that characterize ADLER's corporate philosophy: This independent Schwaz-based family-run business, now in the third generation, is a familiar name far beyond Austria's borders on account of its high-tech products. High quality and extensive application know-how are the cornerstones of the company's success About 16,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz-based paint factory every year, for delivery to customers in more than 25 countries. Nearly half of ADLER's output is exported.

Geared up for the future

"Despite the difficult business situation, we face the future with a positive attitude. ADLER has always puts its faith in organic growth. We score points with innovation and are constantly investing in research and development", explains Dr. Manfred Oberreiter. Moreover, ADLER is pinning its hopes on the opening up of new markets, especially in Eastern Europe. Of course, as Oberreiter goes on to say, by no means is the domestic market to be neglected. "Here, we intend to maintain and even expand our very large market share by offering service capabilities and good product quality."
