Arlington, VA -- The American Chemistry Council (ACC) announced that the Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry (API) has become the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry of the American Chemistry Council.

In 2006, the ACC Executive Committee and Board of Directors endorsed a redesign of ACC's brand strategy and logo to leverage its membership's investment in the essential2 public education campaign and to help create one voice for ACC and the industry. The new name, Center for the Polyurethanes Industry, associates the Center with the other components of the ACC using one industry brand, American Chemistry.

"By streamlining our identity and associating it with the other components of the ACC, it will enable our members to take part in and reap the rewards of the industry's investment in the essential2 public education campaign, said Doug Warner, Center for the Polyurethanes Industry Steering Committee Chair and Global Business Director of Dow Polyols, The Dow Chemical Company."

This change became official on February 5, 2007. These changes and others have streamlined and integrated 25 separate brands under the ACC umbrella, and will integrate and consolidate 50 separate web sites across the organization.

Continued Warner, "Ultimately, we believe that these changes will strengthen the organization and allow us to be more effective advocates for the polyurethanes industry and continue to deliver value to our members."

Center for the Polyurethanes Industry of the American Chemistry Council promotes the sustainable growth of the polyurethane industry, consistent with the principles of Responsible Care®, by identifying and managing issues that could impact the industry, in cooperation with user groups. Its members are U.S. producers or distributors of chemicals and equipment used to make polyurethane or are manufacturers of polyurethane products.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) represents the leading companies engaged in the business of chemistry. ACC members apply the science of chemistry to make innovative products and services that make people's lives better, healthier and safer. ACC is committed to improved environmental, health and safety performance through Responsible Care®, common sense advocacy designed to address major public policy issues, and health and environmental research and product testing. The business of chemistry is a $520 billion enterprise and a key element of the nation's economy. It is one of the nation's largest exporters, accounting for ten cents out of every dollar in U.S. exports. Chemistry companies are among the largest investors in research and development. Safety and security have always been primary concerns of ACC members, and they have intensified their efforts, working closely with government agencies to improve security and to defend against any threat to the nation's critical infrastructure.
