The paint and coating industry has put an emphasis on developing water-based, powder, high solids, and radiation curable coatings that comply with governments' stricter health and safety regulations related to solvent-based products. However, solvent-based products still represent a significant portion of the paint and coating market. Solvents having a high solvency factor require less solvent for the formulation. Knowing the polarity and hydrogen bonding properties of the solvent help determine the most efficient solvent for the coating. In July, we asked our members the following question: Which solvent family are you actively trying to switch away from?
