Exceval® AQ-4104 is a water soluble, modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) polymer. It features combined properties of Kuraray’s Poval and EVAL, including EVAL’s gas barrier (e.g. towards oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide even at elevated relative humidity) characteristics and Poval’s coat-ability. Exceval® AQ-4104 exhibits higher water resistance and lower moisture absorption compared to Poval, shows good resistance to organic chemicals and provides strong adhesion to metals. It is compatible with starch and cellulose. Applications include emulsion polymerization and barrier coatings of film, paper, and other substrates from an aqueous solution. The resulting coatings are highly transparent as well as glossy.
