Aluminum trihydrate. Acts as an effective flame retardant and smoke suppressor. Developed mainly as a partial replacement for TiO2 (titanium dioxide). Lowers the cost of formulations containing TiO2, with minimal effect on viscosity or the physical properties of the overall system. Used in UV coatings and inks, where they scatter, rather than absorb or reflect UV radiation.
