FR CROS® 587

Technical Datasheet | Supplied by Budenheim
FR CROS® 587 by Budenheim is a phosphorus-based, flame retardant. This long-chain ammonium polyphosphate phase II is used as a catalyst for solvent- and water-based intumescent coatings. Above temperatures of 300 °C, it decomposes to polyphosphoric acid and forms a gas layer which minimizes the amount of oxygen available to the substrate. The residual polyphosphate dehydrates polyols, carbohydrates and ROH/RNH containing substances. Subsequently, a heat-protective barrier (intumescence) is foamed up. Intumescent coatings are the ideal fire-protection solution for applications such as paints and coatings on the steel structures of buildings. FR CROS® 587 has very low solubility in water and is insoluble in organic solvents.
