FR CROS® 584

FR CROS® 584 by Budenheim is a phosphorus-based, flame retardant. This long-chain ammonium polyphosphate phase II is used in solvent- and water-based intumescent coatings. It offers highest quality combined with a unique long term shelf life in water-borne paints. Above temperatures of 300°C, FR CROS® 584 decomposes to polyphosphoric acid which dehydrates polyols, carbohydrates and ROH/RNH containing substances. Subsequently, the generated char is expanded by water and ammonia and a solid heat-protective barrier is foamed up. Intumescent coatings are the ideal fire-protection solution for applications such as paints and coatings on the steel structures of buildings. Ammonium polyphosphates (APP) are key ingredients for intumescent coatings. The product has very low solubility in water and is insoluble in organic solvents.
