Catalysts / Accelerators / Initiators

Catalysts/accelerators/initiators initiate the crosslinking reactions in a coating without getting chemically consumed in the process. The heat that evolves during catalytic reactions, helps in drying the coat. This is why catalysts/accelerators are added during application and not during storage. Using too much of catalyst can prevent levelling of the paint and cause stress cracking. Various amines, organometallics, acids and metallic salts are used as catalysts/accelerators in coatings.
