ZHONGSHAN, China -- PPG Industries, a leading global producer of industrial packaging coatings, is highlighting its innovative aerosol can coating solutions. These products illustrate PPG's research and development efforts regarding innovative packaging coating solutions for aerosol cans, including bisphenol A-free internal coatings and waterborne external coatings.
"BPA-free products will be a trend for beverage and food packs, as strict BPA limitations for packaging have been implemented in Europe, Canada and Japan," said Sunny Sun, business manager of two-pieces, Asia/Pacific, and of monobloc cans, aluminum tubes and plastics tubes (MAT), China, for PPG's packaging coatings business. "As a leading supplier of packaging coatings, PPG provides low-BPA and BPA-free internal coatings to customers in the aerosol industry. Introducing these innovative coating solutions to the Chinese market will help customers in this region to meet new guidelines and regulations."
PPG has launched the Monobloc Development Project, aiming to upgrade its internal and external coating solutions for aerosol cans. The development of BPA-free powder internal coatings will help to make low-thickness application possible. For external coatings, PPG has developed a high-performance waterborne overprint varnish, which offers glossy, matte or soft-touch effects.
PPG has a packaging coatings production facility in Suzhou, established in 1993. This facility produces coatings applied to aerosol cans, beer and beverage cans, food cans, general line cans, metal drums, tubes and metal lids. PPG is working with enterprises such as ORG MC, Wangwang, Fuzhen Group, Fujian Shengxing Group, COFCO, Pacific Group, Ball Group, Crown Group, Lulu, Coca-Cola, Baoyi, Wahaha and Wanglaoji. PPG's operation in Suzhou is the only packaging coatings manufacturer in China currently capable of providing a complete coatings service to canneries, and it was the first in China to gain ISO9001 International Quality System certification.
PPG invests more than $300 million annually to develop new technologies and products, including those that are environmentally-responsible such as waterborne, low-volatile organic compound, high-solids-content and powder coatings.
Pittsburgh-based PPG is a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass and fiber glass.
